Water tower in Bad Zwischenahn

The water tower in Bad Zwischenahn is a 35-meter-tall reinforced concrete structure located at Dränkweg 4 that houses an elevated storage tank holding 210 cubic meters of water for the town's supply system. The building includes a viewing platform accessible by climbing 180 steps.

The tower was built between 1937 and 1938 according to a design by Hamburg architect Fritz Höger, with materials partly sourced from military services. This construction took place during a period of significant development in the town's infrastructure.

The structure served as a multi-purpose building for the community, housing the local tourist office and later a regional association for several decades. This shows how public buildings of the era supported different aspects of town life.

The tower is clearly visible from street level and can be viewed from outside, with modern lighting making the structure stand out especially at night. Visitors should note that access to the viewing platform is currently not available due to structural conditions.

The tower received special lighting installations on its north and south corners in 2009 to enhance its nighttime visibility. This upgrade transformed the structure into a glowing landmark visible across the town after dark.
