Wasserwerk Hohe Ward, Waterworks in Hiltrup, Münster, Germany
The Hohe Ward Waterworks stands as a twelve-sided rotunda with brick pillars, sandstone elements, and eleven large windows surrounding its entrance.
Built in 1905 by the Municipal Gas, Electricity and Water Works, the facility became the fifth pumping station to supply drinking water to Münster in 1906.
The Art Nouveau building represents early 20th-century industrial architecture and received monument protection status in 1988, preserving its original appearance despite technical modernizations.
The waterworks processes up to 600,000 liters per hour through activated carbon filters and underground purification, delivering 14 million liters of drinking water daily.
Water from the Dortmund-Ems Canal undergoes a 30-50 day natural filtration process through soil layers before being pumped from 18-meter-deep wells.
