Wittekind-Linde, Natural monument in Elbrinxen, Germany.
The Wittekind-Linde is a Large-leaved Lime tree that grows over 30 meters tall with a broad oval crown. The trunk measures around 10 meters in circumference and dominates the churchyard in Elbrinxen.
The tree suffered severe storm damage to its crown in the mid-19th century. Iron bands were installed in 1860 to support the remaining branches, and these supports remain visible today.
The tree anchors the churchyard as a gathering place where locals have passed time for generations. Its presence shapes how people experience the sacred ground around the church.
The tree stands in the lower section of the cemetery next to the Protestant church in Elbrinxen. It is easily accessible on foot from the village center, and there is no entrance fee.
With a circumference of about 10 meters, this tree ranks among Germany's largest lime trees. Its size makes it a rare example of a lime that has reached such impressive proportions.
