Alter Botanischer Garten Hamburg, Botanical garden in Neustadt, Hamburg, Germany
The Alter Botanischer Garten Hamburg contains five connected greenhouses spanning 2,800 square meters, featuring plants from subtropical and tropical regions across the globe.
Professor Johann Georg Christian Lehmann established this botanical garden in 1821, with an alpine garden section added to the grounds in 1903.
The garden's greenhouses, designed by architect Bernhard Hermkes between 1962 and 1963, represent significant developments in post-war botanical architecture in Germany.
Visitors can access the garden Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 4:45 PM and weekends from 10:00 AM to 5:45 PM during March to October.
The greenhouse construction uses suspended glass panels without internal supports, creating unobstructed views of the botanical collections inside.
