Villa Ingenohl, Renaissance Revival villa in Gronau, Germany
Villa Ingenohl is a residential building in Renaissance Revival style from the late 19th century located on Raiffeisenstraße. It underwent renovation in 1919 and was later converted into office spaces containing 22 rooms.
The building was designed by architect Anton Zengeler in 1897 and served as the home of the Federal Foreign Office starting in 1951. This official use ended in the 1990s when the space needed a new purpose.
The building reflects how wealthy industrialists before World War I chose to display their status through architecture. Italian Renaissance elements shape its appearance and show the taste of those who lived here.
The building sits in a quiet area and is easy to reach on foot from nearby streets. Visitors can view the Renaissance details of the facade from outside to get a good sense of the structure.
After the federal government sold the property, it hosted art exhibitions and events for a time before becoming largely empty. This transition since 2008 has left the villa in a quiet state despite its grand architectural design.
