Altes Hallenbad, Public bath building in Bergheim district, Heidelberg, Germany.
The Altes Hallenbad is an early 20th-century public bath building that blends Art Nouveau elements with classical architecture across about 9000 square meters. Today it houses the KÖRPERWELTEN Museum, an organic supermarket, a restaurant, a café, and a yoga studio.
Architect Franz Sales Kuhn designed this public swimming facility, which opened in 1906. After operating as a bathhouse for 75 years, it closed in 1981 and was later transformed for cultural and commercial uses.
The name reflects its past as a public swimming facility, and today the space hosts diverse cultural events that give it new purpose. Theater performances and exhibitions make use of its generous rooms, turning it into a gathering place for the community.
The building sits between Bergheimer Straße and Poststraße and has convenient parking available. It is easy to reach on foot and offers multiple amenities inside such as restaurants and cafés that make it a comfortable destination for a longer visit.
The former men's swimming pool was converted into an exhibition space while preserving original architectural features like the tilework and pool structure. This unusual repurposing lets visitors feel the space's historical function while exploring current exhibitions.
