Menglerbau, Mixed-use skyscraper in central Heidelberg, Germany
Menglerbau is a residential and commercial high-rise at the heart of Heidelberg with an aluminum-clad exterior and extensive glazing at street level. The rectangular structure dominates the intersection where Rohrbacher Straße meets Kurfürstenanlage.
The building was constructed in 1961 on the former site of Heidelberg's main train station. It marked the first residential high-rise to be built directly in the city center.
The building forms part of Das Carré complex, creating a modern architectural contrast against the traditional German urban landscape of Heidelberg.
The building sits at an easy-to-reach junction in the city center and is accessible on foot from nearby streets. The ground floor with its glass frontage and retail spaces opens directly onto the public square.
The north side of Menglerbau features two additional residential floors that elevate the structure above the surrounding buildings.
