Meisterstein is a summit in the Hochsauerlandkreis region standing at around 636 meters high. Steep rock walls surround a lake that formed in a former quarry site.
Quarrying was particularly active in the 1930s when diabase was extracted from the mountain. The excavation later filled with groundwater to form the lake that exists today.
The site is part of the GrenzWelten Geopark and displays the rocks and geological story of the region. Visitors can discover different stone types and learn how this landscape was shaped through educational paths.
The path to the lake is called Stollenweg and begins in Silbach village center. The cliff areas around the summit are unsecured, so visitors should move carefully and stay aware of steep edges.
The lake water shines in a striking turquoise color and reaches depths between 7 and 9 meters. The spot has become popular with divers, while the surrounding cliffs also attract climbers.
