Schloss Wildenberg

Schloss Wildenberg is a medieval fortified structure positioned on elevated ground with an irregular ring formation. The site contains remnants of defensive walls and a square tower featuring a rounded archway entrance.

Construction of the fortress began in 1272 as a defensive structure in the region. The chapel of Saint George, first documented in 1454, underwent complete reconstruction in 1766.

The structure reflects medieval German defensive building methods through its various construction phases and modifications. You can see how fortification techniques evolved across different periods.

This private residence is not open to public entry, though exterior views of the castle walls and towers are available from nearby walking paths. The surrounding area allows for observation of the fortification from a distance.

Between 1946 and 1987, the medieval fortress served as a retirement home, demonstrating an unexpected shift from its original military function. This later chapter in its story remains largely hidden within the castle walls today.
