Fort Fun Abenteuerland, Amusement park in Bestwig, Germany

Fort Fun Abenteuerland is a seasonal amusement park in the Hormecke valley near Bestwig-Wasserfall, between 510 and 590 metres above sea level. Its roughly 70 hectares hold about 40 attractions and two shows, mostly in Wild West style. A large lodge-like building with a reddish-brown facade stands at the upper left, with smaller interconnected structures, a white domed roof and a pale-yellow building with a balcony below.

In 1967 Karl Josef Freiherr von Wendt built a ski lift at Wasserfall; after his Sauerlandring race track was refused in 1971, two summer toboggan runs opened in 1972, then a holiday village with 25 log cabins and the western town Fort Fun City. A log flume and a US-built steam train followed in 1979, the Wirbelwind coaster in 1981. Financial trouble forced von Wendt to sell in 1985; the Looping Group bought the park in 2017 for 7 million euros.

The park's western town, Fort Fun City, includes the Fort Fun Saloon steakhouse. Shows include Der Quacksalber and Das Geheimnis der Silbermine, the latter performed aboard the Santa Fé Express train. The Halloween event Fort Fear has grown from three to five days.

The park operates from April through November, with longer hours during summer months. Comfortable shoes are advisable due to slopes and pathways throughout the grounds.

A summer toboggan run descends 1.3 kilometers down the mountain and ranks among the longest of its kind in a European amusement park. The track winds through forest and open meadows with multiple curves and small jumps.
