Speed Snake, Steel roller coaster in Fort Fun Abenteuerland, Wasserfall, Germany
Speed Snake is a steel roller coaster at Fort Fun Abenteuerland featuring a 350-meter track with green support structures. The ride reaches speeds up to 60 kilometers per hour and consists of seven cars with four seats each.
This roller coaster opened in 1981 as Wirbelwind, a Vekoma Whirlwind model. It was renamed Speed Snake in 2010 when the park introduced a new train system for the ride.
The ride takes its name from a snake theme that you can see in how the track winds through the park. This design choice from the 1980s shows how the park wanted to make the attraction memorable through its appearance and shape.
A minimum height of 140 centimeters is required to ride alone. The coaster can handle around 1,350 visitors per hour, so expect moderate waiting times during normal park hours.
Since 2017, the ride uses a specialized train system with lap bars instead of shoulder restraints, creating a stronger feeling of freedom during the ride. This design choice sets it apart from other coasters in the park.
