Prinzenpalais, Art museum in Oldenburg, Germany.
The Prinzenpalais is an art museum in Oldenburg housed in a classical-style building with tall rooms and spacious gallery areas. The collection spreads across multiple floors and displays works by German artists from the 19th and 20th centuries.
The building was constructed in 1826 as a residence for Russian princes and later served as a military hospital during World War I. It was converted into an art museum in 2003.
The building displays artworks by northern German painters and artists from the Brücke movement, who developed their own visual language here. Visitors can observe how these creators interpreted their surroundings and what subjects mattered most to them.
The museum is located near Oldenburg Castle and offers complete wheelchair accessibility throughout the building. Plan enough time to explore the different gallery levels at a comfortable pace.
The collection holds many works by artists from the Worpswede artist colony, a group who settled in the marshland south of Bremen. These pieces reveal how creators incorporated the landscape of their region into their artistic output.
