Burg Maienluft, Medieval castle ruin in Wasungen, Germany
The castle complex includes preserved sections of the ring wall and a renovated keep overlooking the Werra Valley and the town of Wasungen.
Initially constructed before 1150, the castle was first documented in 1190 and served as an administrative center for the Counts of Henneberg-Schleusingen after 1274.
The castle grounds now function as a venue for civil ceremonies, banquets, and corporate events, maintaining its connection to regional traditions.
Visitors can access the castle Wednesday through Saturday from 5:00 PM and Sundays from 11:30 AM to 6:00 PM, with accommodations starting at 45 euros.
The medieval fortress transformed into a modern hospitality establishment offers regional cuisine while preserving its historical architecture.
