Garage, Event venue in a former garage in Saarbrücken, Germany

The Garage occupies the listed former Zentral-Garage at Bleichstraße 11–15 in Saarbrücken, built in 1924 by architect Carl Burgemeister in the style of Neues Bauen. The complex centres on a domed hall with adjoining halls and a representative entrance building. Today the large hall hosts concerts and parties, the foyer serves as entrance area, a small club room is used for smaller events, and two gastronomy units at the front can serve as bar, restaurant or casino.

The complex at Bleichstraße 11–15 was built in 1924 by architect Carl Burgemeister as a large garage, car workshop and bodywork shop in the forms of Neues Bauen. From the mid-1930s the Auto-Industrie GmbH specialised in Ford sales and repairs, earning it the nickname Ford-Garage. After the Second World War, under French administration of the Saarland, Simca vehicles were sold and repaired there and the Saarland general agency for Vespa scooters opened. The hall stood empty from the early 1980s, was converted into an event centre in 1989, and in March 2021 housed a Corona test station.

The nickname Ford-Garage stuck from the mid-1930s, when the Auto-Industrie GmbH specialised here in selling and repairing Ford models. After 1945, under French administration of the Saarland, Simca vehicles were also sold and repaired in the hall, and the Saarland general agency for Vespa scooters opened on the site.

The Garage stands at Bleichstraße 11–15, not on St. Johanner Markt. The entrance building leads into a foyer, from which the large hall, the small club and two gastronomy units open; the units can serve as bar, restaurant or gaming casino. Events are irregular, so check the programme before travelling.
