Kirche der Heiligen Apostel, Orthodox church in central Dortmund, Germany
The Church of the Holy Apostles occupies a shared space within an evangelical church building on Luisenstrasse. The interior features Byzantine icons and traditional Orthodox architectural elements typical of Eastern Christian worship.
The Greek Orthodox community was established in 1961 following a labor recruitment agreement between Germany and Greece. The group needed a space for worship and eventually found accommodation within the evangelical church building.
The church holds traditional Orthodox ceremonies during Easter week, including special services like Akolouthia Nymfiou and the celebration of the Last Supper.
The building is centrally located in Dortmund and easily accessible. Visitors should keep in mind that this is a shared space with schedule variations based on the Orthodox calendar.
In 2013 Orthodox crosses and bells were added to the exterior to visibly mark its Eastern Christian identity. These additions transform the appearance of the shared building and create a visual distinction from its Protestant counterpart.
