Hauptpost, Historic post office and city palace in Bonn, Germany.
The Hauptpost is a former princely palace with distinctive arched windows along its facade, standing at the northwest side of Munsterplatz. The structure combines classical architectural elements with postal facilities integrated into its interior spaces.
The building was constructed between 1751 and 1753 as a princely residence and was taken over by the Imperial Post Office in 1876. It opened as a post office in 1877 and later received expansion buildings to accommodate growing postal needs.
The building served as a venue for royal visits and cultural gatherings that highlighted Bonn's standing as an important city. Its rooms still display the grandeur of a princely residence with their halls and ornamental details.
The building is centrally located on Munsterplatz and easily accessible on foot, with a clear view of its facade from the street. The interior has been renovated to allow comfortable passage while its historical character has been preserved.
A separate package sorting wing was added between 1906 and 1908, showing how the building adapted to modern postal demands. This extension stands alongside the original halls of the former residence, creating an interesting blend of eras.
