Schloss Ehningen, Medieval château in Ehningen, Germany.
Schloss Ehningen is a former water castle in Baden-Württemberg with a residential building from the 16th century that displays a coat of arms from 1567. The grounds include historical outbuildings and designed gardens that reflect different building phases of the estate.
The castle was founded around 1300 as a water fortification and underwent major renovations between the 16th and 20th centuries. A fire in 1927 forced the reconstruction of the southern wing in timber-frame style following architect Felix Krüger's designs.
The castle shows how noble families changed their way of living over centuries, from fortified structures to more comfortable homes. Visitors can see today in the preserved rooms and gardens how the daily life of the residents evolved.
The grounds are visible from outside and allow visitors to observe the different building styles and architectural periods. The visit is best enjoyed in good weather to fully explore the gardens and exteriors.
The southern wing was rebuilt in 1927 after a devastating fire in modern timber-frame style and contrasts visibly with the older structures beside it. This deliberate design difference makes the building history of the castle immediately apparent at first glance.
