Schleuse Neue Mühle, Lock in Königs Wusterhausen, Germany.
Schleuse Neue Mühle is a lock on the Dahme waterway in Königs Wusterhausen that allows boats to navigate between different water levels. The stone chamber measures approximately 39 meters long and just over 5 meters wide, accommodating various types of watercraft.
The lock was first built in 1696 using wooden construction, but in 1812 it was rebuilt with stone materials for greater durability. This transformation made it a more reliable structure for inland navigation.
The lock remains central to Brandenburg's inland navigation network, connecting local communities through water-based transportation and recreational activities.
The lock is accessible daily during warmer months for different types of watercraft and requires checking current conditions before passage. It is wise to allow extra time for the locking procedure and follow the instructions of the lock operators.
A specialized drawbridge over the lower gate was added in 1868 to allow taller vessels to pass through. This addition shows how the lock was adapted to meet growing demands of boat traffic.
