Hotel Stubenberghaus

Hotel Stubenberghaus is a two-story plastered building with three wings, a granitic basement, and a hipped roof featuring multiple dormer windows. The structure sits on an elevated position above the old town and forms a visually prominent ensemble in the surrounding landscape.

Prince Victor Friedrich of Anhalt-Bernburg commissioned the building in 1754 as a hunting and pleasure house. After serving this initial purpose, it eventually transformed into an establishment that welcomed travelers.

The building displays neoclassical design elements that reflect regional building traditions from 18th century Saxony-Anhalt. These architectural features continue to shape the appearance and spatial layout of the house today.

The building is located at Stubenberg 1 in an elevated position above the Gernrode center. Visitors planning to stay should be prepared for steps and the slope of the terrain.

During the Franco-Prussian War in 1870, the house served as accommodation for French prisoners of war. This unexpected role created special encounters between the captives and local residents at that time.
