Haus der Gesundheit

Haus der Gesundheit is a six-story building with a trapezoidal footprint and classical facade details in Berlin's Mitte district, situated near Alexanderplatz. Its southeast side features small-paned windows oriented toward the former Landsberger Strasse, giving the structure a distinctive appearance.

The structure was built in 1913 by architects Hans Liepe and Reinhard Gerres with a different initial purpose. It underwent reconstruction after World War II damage and gained an extra attic floor during restoration.

This building became Berlin's first interdisciplinary medical center when it was renamed and repurposed in 1923, setting a new standard for healthcare delivery in the city. The structure and its design reflected this medical mission and continue to shape how people use the space today.

The building continues to house various medical specialists and serves as an active healthcare facility in the city center. Visitors can explore the surrounding Alexanderplatz area and view the building from the street as part of the historic streetscape.

From 1916 to 1952, the building housed the Eden cinema, which later operated as the Universum, blending entertainment with medical services in one space. This unusual combination of cinema and medical offices made the site a multipurpose public hub.
