The synagogue, designed by Louis Blecher, featured neuromanesque architecture with a central dome and multiple ornamental windows at Lortzingstrasse.
The Jewish community of Detmold used three different synagogues between 1633 and 1938, with the final structure constructed in 1907.
The 1907 synagogue served as the central gathering point for Jewish religious ceremonies and community events in early 20th century Detmold.
A memorial stone installed in 1994 marks the location of the former synagogue, displaying both historical and contemporary inscriptions.
The structure fell victim to arson during the November 1938 pogrom, with only ruins remaining until their removal in April 1939.
