Schloss Wildprechtroda, Renaissance château in Bad Salzungen, Germany.

Schloss Wildprechtroda is a Renaissance château in Thuringia with three buildings organized around a central courtyard. The complex originally sat within a water-filled moat, remnants of which still mark the surrounding grounds.

The Lords of Buttlar took control of the estate in 1432 and rebuilt an earlier water castle into their own residence. The structure was expanded over time into a notable noble stronghold within the region.

The building reflects how German nobility adopted Italian design ideas in their own homes during the 16th century. Visitors can see this blend of regional and southern European styles in the surviving rooms and outer walls.

The château functions as a private residence, though its main hall can be rented for events and celebrations. Planning ahead is essential since access for general visits is restricted.

During East Germany's era, the castle housed around 27 refugee families from German eastern territories who had fled war and displacement. This unusual use shows how historic noble estates adapted to serve ordinary people during the 20th century.
