Cimetière de montagne de Linden, Historic cemetery in Linden-Limmer, Germany

This cemetery sits on sloping terrain and is organized into distinct sections with various tomb styles and memorial forms. The grounds combine open spaces and planted areas with architectural variety in their design and layout.

The cemetery was established in 1862 as the district of Linden transformed from a rural area into an industrial urban center. Its creation responded to the growing needs of a rapidly expanding population during this period of major change.

The memorial designs reflect how burial customs and ways of remembering the dead have evolved across different periods in German society. Walking through the grounds, you can see these changes in style and form, which tell stories about the values of each generation.

The cemetery is easy to reach on foot and suitable for a leisurely walk through different sections. Weekday visits during standard hours tend to be more organized for those seeking information or assistance.

The site has been formally recognized as an architectural heritage group, which sets it apart from typical cemeteries. This designation reflects how the entire grounds are valued together as an important ensemble rather than just individual monuments.

Hello, I don't know who to contact because my uncle was buried at the British military cemetery in Limmer, Hanover, Germany. He was Soldier Jean-Claude Pelland, service number SD-5109, 2nd Battalion of the Royal 22nd Regiment of Canada. He is likely at grave No. 12, row C, lot No. 6. I would like to know if he is really there and who could inform me. His sister, who was my mother, would have liked to visit his grave, but it was not possible. Perhaps, someday, I or my children will have the chance to go. Thank you.
