Hüttenwerk Mägdesprung, Industrial ironworks in Harzgerode, Germany.
Hüttenwerk Mägdesprung is an iron foundry in the Selke Valley with multiple buildings that have processed metal since 1646. The facility used river power to drive its machinery and evolved from basic craft production into specialized decorative casting.
Prince Friedrich von Anhalt-Bernburg-Harzgerode founded the works in 1646 as a small metal workshop. Over centuries, the facility grew and focused increasingly on producing decorative cast pieces.
The Carlswerk section displays machinery from the early 20th century that shows how workers once processed metal by hand and machine. Walking through these spaces gives you a sense of what a working day in the foundry felt like.
The site sits along the Selke River and connects to the Selketalstieg hiking trail for easy access. The nearby Selke Valley Railway provides regular service, making it easy to reach without a car.
An obelisk from 1812 stands on the grounds as proof of the advanced casting techniques mastered at the time. The monument itself is a masterwork of cast iron and was later reconstructed.
