Stoltze-Brunnen, Heritage water fountain in Hühnermarkt, Frankfurt, Germany
Stoltze-Brunnen is a water fountain with a bronze bust mounted on a round column, located in Frankfurt's old town district. Three basins and ornamental bronze pigeons at the water spouts form the structure's distinctive design.
The monument was built in 1895 to honor Frankfurt writer Friedrich Stoltze. After being moved several times, it returned to its original location in 2017.
The fountain displays relief panels showing scenes from Stoltze's literary works and brings his written stories into the city's public spaces. These carvings connect the writer's imagination with everyday Frankfurt, making his tales visible to anyone who passes by.
The fountain sits in the heart of the old town on Hühnermarkt square and is easy to reach on foot. The location offers enough space to walk around and view the water features from different angles.
A well at this location witnessed a tragic event in 1696 when a newborn was discovered there. This dark chapter is part of the place's long history and remains recorded in Frankfurt's local records.
