Erdwerk Ohrenbacher Schanze

Erdwerk Ohrenbacher Schanze is a square fortification with earth walls and a surrounding trench located near Bremhof. The structure has an eastern entrance and contains the remains of a well inside.

Excavations conducted from 1912 to 1913 under Georg Hocks uncovered Roman pottery from the 2nd century on the grounds. This indicates the site held significance during that period.

The site demonstrates early medieval ways of building defenses and shows techniques people used for protection at that time. Its square shape and earth walls are typical features from this period.

The site is best explored on foot, as you can see the entire structure from the edge. The grounds are open to visitors, but be prepared for uneven terrain.

The grounds may have served as a timber processing camp for the Roman legion based in Mainz, connecting it to historical trade routes. This theory stems from its location along a prehistoric highland path between Bremhof and Miltenberg.
