Erdwerk Ohrenbacher Schanze

The Erdwerk Ohrenbacher Schanze consists of a square enclosure with earth walls measuring 90 meters on each side and a surrounding trench 1.5 meters deep.

Archaeological excavations conducted between 1912 and 1913 under Georg Hocks revealed Roman ceramics dating back to the second century within the fortification grounds.

The structure, registered in the Bavarian Monument Preservation List, represents early medieval military architecture and demonstrates ancient defensive construction techniques.

The fortification features an eastern entrance measuring 3.5 meters in width and contains the remains of a water well within its perimeter.

Located near a prehistoric highland path between Bremhof and Miltenberg, the site might have served as a timber processing camp for the Roman legion of Mainz.
