Funkturm Leipzig is a 191-meter-tall steel lattice mast located on the Leipzig Trade Fair grounds that broadcasts digital radio and television signals. Multiple antennas housed in a fiberglass tube at its summit transmit to the surrounding region.
The structure was built in 2015 and began operation in May 2016 with modern transmission technology. It replaced an older broadcasting facility that had been located on a municipal works chimney nearby.
The mast is a sign of modern Leipzig's investment in digital technology and infrastructure. It reflects how the city has adapted to contemporary broadcasting needs and remains connected to wider regions.
The mast stands on the expansive fairgrounds and can be viewed from outside, giving a sense of its scale and construction. The location is well connected by public transport and offers views across the fairgrounds and surrounding area.
The steel framework weighs around 300 tons and was manufactured by a Spanish specialist company known for such projects. The four concrete foundations beneath the mast contain substantial material to support this considerable weight securely.
