Falkenberger Rieselfelder, Protected area in Falkenberg, Germany.
The Falkenberger Rieselfelder spans 88.1 hectares of wetlands, meadows, and small deciduous forests in the Lichtenberg district of Berlin.
In 1884, city planner James Hobrecht established these fields as wastewater treatment areas, using the resulting fertilizer for grain and vegetable cultivation.
Nine amphibian species inhabit the reserve, including the northern crested newt and fire-bellied toad, making it a center for ecological research.
Visitors can explore marked paths through the reserve, observe wildlife from designated points, and participate in guided educational tours about wetland ecosystems.
Highland cattle graze the meadows to prevent bush encroachment, maintaining open spaces that support field larks, corn buntings, and common buzzards.
