Residential building Grunewaldstraße 87, Heritage residential building in Schöneberg, Germany
The residential building at Grunewaldstraße 87 is a five-story structure featuring two bay windows and a decorative facade of brick and stucco elements. The complex also includes three rear courtyard buildings, a garden house, and a side wing.
The house was designed between 1887 and 1888 by architect Nikolaus Becker as a rental building for stonemason H. Richter. Its construction occurred during Berlin's period of rapid urban expansion in the late 19th century.
The building displays typical features of late 19th century Berlin with its ornately decorated street-facing facade of brick and stucco. Such richly embellished residential houses still shape the character of Berlin's neighborhoods from this era.
The building is located in the Tempelhof-Schöneberg district and is easily accessible by public transportation. Its walkable proximity to other residential areas makes it possible to explore the architecture of this neighborhood on foot.
From 1951 to 2007, a specialized paint and artist supply shop called Ferdinand Braune occupied the ground floor. This shop served the local artistic community for generations and shaped the character of the street.
