Sender Jenner, Radio transmitter in Berchtesgaden, Germany
Sender Jenner is a broadcasting facility located on Jenner mountain at about 1870 meters elevation that sends radio signals across the surrounding region. The site contains several antenna towers and electronic equipment needed for daily transmission.
The facility began operating in 1956 or 1957 with a small 2-watt transmitter to bring television signals to the Berchtesgaden area. Since then it has grown into a modern broadcasting station serving the entire region.
The facility broadcasts several Bavarian radio programs that people in the region listen to daily. These stations connect villages and valleys through local news and music.
The facility sits high on the mountain and is not directly accessible to visitors since it is a private broadcasting station. However, you can see it from a distance when hiking or climbing the mountain in the area.
The facility is actually not a single station but consists of three separate broadcasting sites spread across the summit area of Jenner. One of these locations is even positioned at the mountain station of the Jennerbahn cable car, offering a wide view across the landscape.
