Fagstein is a summit in the Berchtesgaden Alps that rises to 2164 meters (7100 feet) above sea level with steep rocky faces and grassy upper sections. The mountain sits between forested lower slopes and exposed alpine terrain at its peak.

The sources record no pastoral history for Fagstein; the summit is reached only by pathless routes. Climbers come from the south over the Hohe Roßfelder, from the northeast over the Rothspielscheibe, or on the southeast slopes between the Seeleinsee and the Schneibstein. The mountain lies in the Berchtesgaden National Park, 800 metres northwest of the border with the state of Salzburg.

The name Fagstein is not explained in the sources, and no maintained trail reaches the top: climbers approach from the Hohe Roßfelder pastures to the south, from the Rothspielscheibe to the northeast, or tracklessly up the southeast slopes from the path between Seeleinsee and Schneibstein.
