Kahlersberg, Mountain summit in Berchtesgaden Alps, Germany and Austria
Kahlersberg is a mountain summit in the Berchtesgaden Alps located at the border between Bavaria and Salzburg, standing at 2,350 meters high. The peak sits within the Northern Limestone Alps and features steep rock faces along its ridge line.
Kahlersberg was first climbed in 1854, marking the beginning of mountaineering activity on this peak. The mountain has since become a regular destination for climbers seeking routes in the region.
The mountain marks a natural boundary between Austrian and German territories, representing the intersection of Alpine traditions from both nations.
Access to the summit is mainly through two marked routes: a challenging version from the west via the alpine climbing route and a steeper path through Mausloch. Both routes require experience with exposed terrain and solid footing skills.
The descent option through Fensterl wind gap leads across steep scree fields where falling rocks are a real concern. This route demands special navigation skills and is only suitable for very experienced mountaineers.
