Teufelshörner, Mountain peak in Berchtesgaden Alps, Germany and Austria.
Teufelshörner comprises two peaks in the Berchtesgaden Alps reaching 2,363 meters and connected by a rocky ridge. This ridge marks the border between Bavaria and Salzburg.
The first documented ascent of these peaks occurred in the late 1800s and marked the beginning of mountaineering in the region. This climb opened new routes and gradually drew more climbers to the Berchtesgaden Alps.
The name Teufelshörner refers to an old local legend about supernatural beings inhabiting these steep rock faces. Visitors can still sense this folklore connection through stories shared by people from the region.
Access to the peaks begins with a boat ride across Königssee to Salet, followed by a steep climb. Most visitors need an overnight stay at Wasseralm to complete the journey comfortably.
A narrow, knife-edge ridge connects the two summits and offers sweeping views from this elevation. From this vantage point, you can see Hochkönig, Watzmann, and Tennengebirge.
