Brandhorn

Brandhorn is a mountain in the Berchtesgaden Alps that rises to 2610 meters in the Steinernes Meer range. The ridge terrain here is rocky and steep, creating a challenging landscape for those who climb to the summit.

The mountain became a climbing destination in the 19th century when early mountaineers traced multiple routes to reach its peak. These pathways remain in use today and show how climbers have accessed the summit for generations.

The mountain stands as part of the European long-distance path E4, connecting local communities through traditional alpine hiking traditions and regional outdoor activities.

Multiple climbing routes are available, with the path from Riemannhaus to Matrashaus taking between 10 to 12 hours to complete. Difficulty levels vary depending on the chosen route, so visitors should match their experience and fitness to the path they select.

The peak ranks as the third highest in the Steinernes Meer range, with only two other summits rising above it in this section. Its positioning among neighboring peaks shapes how climbers experience the ridge and surrounding terrain.
