Deutsches Haus

Deutsches Haus is a cultural heritage monument in Marburg featuring medieval timber-framed architecture and detailed facades located at Deutschhausstraße 10. The structure contains multiple stories with various rooms including a historic kitchen and substantial fireplace.

The structure was founded in the early 13th century and served as a residence for the Teutonic Knights for centuries. In the early 1800s it changed hands and began serving different purposes.

The building displays medieval craftsmanship visible in its rooms and architectural details. These elements reveal how earlier inhabitants lived and what they needed from their living spaces.

The building currently houses university departments and is easy to locate in a central area of Marburg. Keep in mind that some areas may not be publicly accessible since active offices and classrooms are in use.

A baroque entrance portal was relocated from a demolished building and connects different architectural periods within the complex. This practice of reusing precious architectural elements was a common way to preserve valuable craftsmanship.
