Schloss Pirkensee, Castle and park in Maxhütte-Haidhof, Germany
Schloss Pirkensee is a two-story castle with four onion-shaped towers located in the Upper Palatinate region of Bavaria. The structure displays classical Baroque features with a saddle roof and sits within landscaped grounds.
The castle was first documented in 1062 under the name Perchinseo and was destroyed by fire in 1632. It was reconstructed between 1731 and 1734 in Baroque style by Johann Bernhard von Francken.
The St. Anna chapel inside the castle features ornate Rococo decorations on its walls and ceiling. It once served as the spiritual center for the local community before a new parish church was established in the village.
The castle is located within easy reach of Regensburg and welcomes visitors for various occasions. The grounds are also open for casual walks and exploration of the property.
During the Franco-Prussian War the castle served as a military hospital for wounded soldiers. After World War II it also provided shelter for displaced persons from Eastern Europe.
