Schloss Wallhausen is an H-shaped Renaissance castle at the southern edge of Wallhausen, built around 1606 and 1613; Ludwig von der Asseburg had the west wing, a tower and adjoining rooms erected in 1608. The east and west wings project at their ends as risalits, a tower with a baroque hood stands on the northwest side, and a console-supported oriel marks the centre of the facades above the second floor. Sandstone portals, cornices and pilasters are heavily weathered, and the lower floor of the west wing holds a two-aisled late Gothic vaulted hall on columns with flat capitals.

The site may occupy a Carolingian-era Saxon farmstead and served as a royal palace for Saxon kings and emperors in the 10th and 11th centuries. By around 1150 a moated castle with a St. Martin's chapel stood here. From 1414 the Asseburg family held it; Ludwig von der Asseburg built the west wing, a tower and adjoining rooms in 1608, and the castle suffered damage during the Thirty Years' War.

The castle has been a hotel with a restaurant since 2005, when the Meier-Föllmi family bought it; after Meier-Föllmi died at the end of 2023, René Huber-Meier and his wife Lilly took over its management in 2024. The former vaulted hall in the west wing, once used as the village school's gymnasium, recalls the building's time as a municipal school after 1950.

The castle stands at the southern edge of Wallhausen, at Schloss 1. It has operated as a hotel with a restaurant since 2005, so visitors can arrange an overnight stay or a meal on site. The roof truss and much of the second upper floor were destroyed by a fire on 30 July 2026, so check current access before planning a visit.

The castle passed to three daughters when Hermann Werner von der Asseburg died in 1779, after the estate had been turned into a Weiber- und Kunkellehen in 1755, a fief that could descend through women. Their descendant Hermann Werner Freiherr von Bocholtz, born 1770, was raised to Count of Bocholtz-Asseburg in 1803.
