Uedesheimer Rheinbogen, Protected area in Neuss, Germany.
Uedesheimer Rheinbogen is a protected natural area that spans around 108 hectares, featuring a mix of meadows, reed beds, and riverside forests. The landscape displays different habitats with varying plant species that exist visibly side by side in good condition.
The area received protection status in 1987 to preserve its natural habitats. Later, in 2003, additional measures were introduced to strengthen protection and ensure long-term conservation of its resources.
The name comes from the river bend it forms, and locals see it as an important refuge where nature thrives undisturbed. Visitors come to watch birds and experience a quieter side of the Rhine, far from the city's noise.
Visitors should use marked paths to avoid disturbing sensitive ecosystems and protect the species living there. It works best to visit early in the day when wildlife is more active and fewer people are around.
The area contains rare sage meadow communities found only in this Lower Rhine region, making it important for preserving these special plant groupings. The distinctive pollarded willows provide habitat for bird and insect species that are hard to find elsewhere.
