Villa Pellet, Villa and architectural heritage monument in Berg, Germany
Villa Pellet is a country house at Münchner Straße 51 in Kempfenhausen directly on Lake Starnberg, with terraces facing the water and large park grounds around it. The building displays elements from the 1800s and was later expanded with additional structures from the early 1900s.
The country house was built in 1855 by Andreas Pellet, a royal postmaster from Starnberg, and reached prominence when King Ludwig II rented it in 1864 for Richard Wagner. After 1866 the Russian Field Marshal Prince Alexander Bariatinsky purchased the property and carried out extensive renovations.
The place takes its name from its original owner and is shaped today by the school community that brings modern life to the historical rooms. Visitors can experience the connection between the preserved interiors from the early 1900s and the current use as an educational institution.
The property is now part of a school facility and can only be visited with prior permission. The best time to visit is outside of school hours when the grounds are accessible.
Inside, the country house preserves an extensive library with Neo-Empire style furnishings from 1907 that gives a sense of the learning of its former inhabitants. The style of these rooms stands out distinctly from the rest of the house and reveals the refined tastes of its later owners.
