Kaiserturm, Stone observation tower in Gadernheim, Germany.
Kaiserturm is a stone observation tower that rises 34 meters above ground and stands at Neunkircher Höhe. The structure has a square base with sides of about 6.5 meters and was built from granite blocks.
The current structure was built in 1907 after a wooden predecessor from 1888 collapsed during a storm. The building was created as a monument to the 25th anniversary of the Darmstadt Odenwaldclub group.
The tower is named after German Emperor Wilhelm I and has shaped the landscape for more than a century. Visitors can see today how such structures were once placed in nature to attract hikers and make the area better known.
A restaurant and service areas are located on the lower floors and can be reached by climbing several steps from ground level. The observation deck in the upper part of the tower requires climbing stairs, but rewards visitors with views across the surrounding area.
From the observation deck at roughly 28 meters high, visitors can see the Katzenbuckel and the Taunus mountain range on clear days. This wide view across the Odenwald region makes the climb rewarding for nature lovers.
