Neunkircher Höhe, Mountain summit in Odenwald, Germany
Neunkircher Höhe is a mountain summit in the Odenwald with a height of about 605 meters, forming the highest point in the Hessian section of this range. From this elevation, several rivers originate including the Modau, Gersprenz, and Lauter, which drain the surrounding region.
An observation tower was first built on the summit in 1888 to survey the surrounding landscape. After strong winds destroyed the original structure, a new tower was constructed in 1906 and has stood since then.
The name refers to nine churches in the surrounding area, showing how religious landmarks once helped people navigate and understand the landscape. Today this name still recalls how closely settlements and places of worship were connected to the land.
The summit features an observation tower from which you can see across the Odenwald region. Access is well marked and the route can be managed by most visitors without special equipment.
The roughly 34-meter tower offers one of the best views across the entire Odenwald range and serves as a distinctive landmark visible from great distances. The structure was reinforced to withstand the strong winds that frequently batter the summit.
