Kurpark Döse, Public park in Döse district, Cuxhaven, Germany
Kurpark Döse lies behind a sea dike near Grimmershörn Bay with a semicircular lake, walking paths, and green spaces forming a well-maintained landscape. The site includes a free zoo housing around 250 animals across roughly 50 species, plus netted areas where seabirds feed.
The site was created in 1935 when Cuxhaven was growing as a North Sea resort and officials sought a recreational area for visitors and residents. This founding led to the combination of nature park and leisure facilities that still defines the space today.
The Kugelbake Hall dominates the park with its distinctive white tower rising above the landscape. The venue hosts concerts, dance evenings, and exhibitions where visitors and locals regularly gather.
Access is free and the grounds are easy to explore on foot with broad paths running throughout the site. Wear comfortable shoes and plan time for observation, especially when seabirds are being fed.
The grounds feature specially designed netted viewing areas for observing waders such as redshanks, oystercatchers, and avocets in their natural behavior. These dedicated observation zones let visitors watch the birds without disturbance.
