Michaelskapelle, Architectural heritage monument on Kirchberg, Deidesheim, Germany
Michaelskapelle is a small chapel situated on a ridge near Deidesheim with Gothic features expressed through its simple hall structure. The building displays a distinctive western entrance and a large choir window that fills the interior with light.
The chapel was built in 1470 and underwent significant reconstruction in 1662 by a local craftsman. A second major renovation in the mid-20th century gave the structure its present form.
The chapel's reconstruction in 1952 fulfilled a community pledge made during World War II to rebuild the structure if Deidesheim remained protected.
The chapel sits about one kilometer northwest of Deidesheim on elevated terrain and is reachable on foot. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes as the path climbs upward and access is across open ground.
The chapel originally contained seven windows with tracery, which were modified during the 1952 reconstruction to create its current architectural appearance.
