Pierre Boulez Saal, Concert hall in Berlin, Germany

Pierre Boulez Saal is a concert hall in Berlin's Mitte district featuring an elliptical design with cedar wood wall panels. The space holds around 700 seats and hosts performances of classical and contemporary music.

The hall opened in 2017 within a former storage building of the Berlin State Opera that was constructed between 1952 and 1955. Converting a utilitarian structure into a modern concert venue represents a shift in how Berlin's cultural buildings are used today.

The hall hosts the Barenboim-Said Academy, where young musicians from Arab countries and Israel study and perform together. This work with artists from different backgrounds shapes what you experience when you visit.

The hall sits on Französische Straße in Berlin's Mitte district and is easy to reach. Visitors under 30 can take advantage of special ticket options through the CLASSICCARD program.

Architect Frank Gehry and acoustician Yasuhisa Toyota designed the space so musicians perform at eye level with the audience. This unusual arrangement creates a direct connection between performers and listeners that is rare in most concert halls.
