Riederstein

Riederstein is a mountain summit in the Bavarian Prealps with marked trails running through forest and a restaurant located partway up the slopes. The paths wind through different terrain, providing places to rest and refuel during the climb.

Mountain enthusiasts first documented routes to this summit during the 1800s, opening the peak for recreational hiking that continues today. These early expeditions transformed the region into a destination for outdoor visitors.

A small chapel near the summit reflects traditional Bavarian mountain architecture and serves as a quiet place where hikers pause during their climb. The structure shows how local communities maintained religious practices in the high country.

The climb from Tegernsee takes roughly two hours on well-marked trails that are straightforward to follow. Bring plenty of water and sturdy footwear, as paths can become muddy or slippery during wetter seasons.

From the top on clear days, you can see Lake Tegernsee spread below along with the surrounding peaks that frame the valley. The neighboring Wendelstein peak to the east is particularly visible and makes for an interesting reference point when surveying the wider landscape.
