Kührointhaus

The Kührointhaus is a mountain hut at 1200 meters elevation near Berchtesgaden National Park that offers lodging to hikers and mountaineers. The building sits below the Watzmann and contains sleeping rooms and a dining area where food is prepared daily.

The hut was built on land formerly used by farmers from Ramsau as pasture for cattle, and its name comes from a cleared forest area. The building later became a shelter for mountaineers and represents part of the alpine settlement history of this region.

The hut serves as a gathering place where visitors experience regional cooking methods and local food traditions passed down through generations. People from the area come here to share meals and stories about mountain life.

The hut is best reached on foot from the valley since vehicle access is not possible. Visitors should bring sturdy boots and supplies, especially if weather conditions change.

The hut sources trout and char from nearby mountain lakes and also serves spirits from a local distillery. These regional specialties show how the kitchen is directly connected to the surrounding landscape.
