Hessen-Kaserne Stadtallendorf, Military barracks in Stadtallendorf, Germany
Hessen-Kaserne is an active military base of the German armed forces in Stadtallendorf, a town in central Hesse. The site includes barracks buildings, administrative blocks, vehicle hangars, and training areas across its grounds.
The site was built after World War II on the grounds of a former munitions factory that had produced explosives during the war. After the war ended, the area was repurposed and turned into a military base that began operating in the mid-1950s.
The facility carries the name of the Hesse state, reflecting its role in German military operations. It serves as a working example of international military coordination between German and Dutch forces who share training and operational activities here.
The base is in Stadtallendorf and can be reached from Marburg without much difficulty. As an active military facility, it is not open to the public and security rules apply throughout the site.
Although the site was once on a closure list in the mid-2000s, that decision was reversed and the base received major investment in its infrastructure afterward. Today, it also serves as a place where German and Dutch forces train and operate side by side.
