St. Bartholomäus

St. Bartholomew is a Gothic cathedral in Frankfurt featuring three aisles, a long transept, and a west tower reaching about 95 meters tall. The interior shows clear spatial divisions with soaring vaults and colored windows that direct light throughout the building.

Construction began around 1250 using Gothic style, and the building evolved over centuries with additions and modifications. From 1562 to 1792, it served as the coronation site for German emperors, marking its importance in the history of the Holy Roman Empire.

The cathedral takes its name from Saint Bartholomew, whose relic is kept in the treasury and draws pilgrims seeking spiritual connection. Walking through the three aisles, visitors sense the sacred purpose that has made this place central to Frankfurt's religious life for centuries.
