St. Burkard

St. Burkard is a church in Ahorntal featuring a hall structure defined by a recessed polygonal choir. Sandstone pilasters divide the entire western facade, creating a composed and orderly appearance.

Martin Mayer and Wenzel Schwesner built the church between 1769 and 1770 following Bavarian architectural traditions. The structure emerged during a period when classical design was reshaping how churches were constructed in the region.

The organ by Engelhard Herrmann shapes the sound of services and shows the craftsmanship of the 18th century. It remains central to how the community experiences music in this space.
