Haus Fichtengrund, Historical residential building in Templin, Germany
Haus Fichtengrund is a two-story residential building on the western edge of Templin with red brick construction, now covered in yellow-green plaster. The structure today contains multiple apartments, workshop spaces, and serves as an educational facility for people with disabilities.
The building was constructed in 1891 by an organization focused on child education, having relocated from its previous location near the Prenzlauer Gate. Its original function as a care facility for troubled youth came to an end in 1958.
The building served for many years as a center for education and care within the community. Today it continues to support social purposes under the Stephanus Foundation while remaining part of the local landscape.
The property belongs to the Waldhof complex and is managed by the Stephanus Foundation, so access may be limited. Visitors should inquire ahead and maintain respectful distance from the working facility.
The building holds a connection to the childhood of Angela Merkel, whose father worked here as a Protestant pastor from 1957 onward. This link makes it a place of historical significance in German political circles.
